Pediatric Chiropractic Care

Although we often attribute the need for chiropractic care to the inevitable symptoms of aging, there is also a specialized need for chiropractic adjustments for children. At Total Health, our chiropractors are educated in the advanced techniques necessary for caring for patients who are significantly smaller, lighter, more delicate, and often less ambulatory than their adult counterparts.

For parents and caregivers who hope to avoid medications and invasive medical procedures for their children, chiropractic adjustments can be a solution to a child’s:

  • Back and neck pain
  • Headaches
  • Injuries due to falls or other accidents
  • Posture problems
  • Scoliosis or torticollis “twisted neck”
  • Peripheral nerve injuries
  • Sciatic nerve problems

If you suspect your child displays some of the symptoms listed, please contact the Total Health team where our pediatric chiropractors will provide both care and comfort through our advanced chiropractic services expertly designed for children.

Pediatric Chiropractic Care FAQS

Is Chiropractic Care safe for children?

Yes. Our chiropractors have years of experience and are trained in caring for children. They use a much gentler chiropractic approach on children, depending on the patient's weight, size, and age. This could mean as light as one finger of pressure to adjust very young children, as our chiropractors are aware of their developing spine. Chiropractic care is a noninvasive spinal manipulation method and is a safer option than many other pain treatments for children. There are very few risks with chiropractic care and complications are rare.

It depends on the symptoms or source of pain, but most adjustments on children will have them feel immediate relief after a chiropractic adjustment. However, multiple sessions are recommended to see the long-term effects. Parents have even reported improved sleeping, less ear infections, and less bedwetting incidents in their children after just a few adjustments.

Treatment is both safe and effective for patients as young as infants. There are a wide range of methods and pressure that can be applied during a pediatric session, therefore there is no age requirement for a child to receive their first chiropractic adjustment.

The chiropractor uses their hands to apply pressure and manipulate the spine while placing the patient in different positions. While there may be temporary discomfort depending on the patient, the procedure is not painful. Parents will often report that their children look forward to chiropractic adjustments and enjoy the session. The overall results can make everyday life pain free and even support a child's immune system leading them to get sick less often.
