PRP

Heal joints and tendons without surgery

Exciting new therapy to heal joints and tendons, WITHOUT SURGERY!!!

Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) is the name given to a new treatment done to stimulate healing which involves concentrating the healing bodies of ones’ own blood and then reintroducing it to injured areas.

The process involves drawing a small amount of blood from the patient, spinning it down in to growth factor rich platelets, and then reintroducing it back into the injured area. PRP has been used in musculoskeletal medicine as early as the 1990’s, and since the 1980’s in surgical and dental procedures. It is a highly popular modality among professional athletes. Uses for PRP in musculoskeletal medicine include treatment of tendon injuries, painful muscle strains, ligament sprains and joint injuries and joint pain such as arthritis and knee problems as well as tennis elbow, plantar fasciitis, Achilles tendonitis, rotator cuff tears, chronic low back and neck pain. All of these are being treated with the injection of PRP with the goal of regenerating degenerated connective tissue with reports of success.

Is it safe?

PRP Therapy

PRP therapy is considered particularly safe because it involves using the person’s own blood which eliminates the risk of transmission of any blood-borne disease. It also eliminates concerns of rejection or allergies by the body.

Is it painful?

Very little, if any, pain is experienced. People generally report one or two days two days of slight soreness and then usually pain relief occurs within the first week and continues to improve while healing takes place.

Is PRP a cure or temporary?

Unlike Cortisone shots, PRP actually heals the injured region.
