What is chiropractic care?

Chiropractic Care is an effective treatment for chronic pain and depression that works through manual adjustment and manipulation of the spine. Chiropractors use a hands-on method to target musculoskeletal issues along with psychological problems stemming from the nervous system. People of all ages, including children, with all different types of pain and conditions can benefit from chiropractic care. It is a safe and generally pain-free procedure that only has a slight possibility of minor side effects, compared to the potential side effects of prescription medicine. Directly following an appointment for chiropractic care some patients may experience dizziness, fatigue, headaches, or pain in the treated area. These side effects are temporary and should resolve within a few days following treatment. The goal of our chiropractors is to offer patients a pain free life both physically and mentally.

What is considered chronic pain?

Pain with acute situations such as injuries or illness can often be resolved, but when the pain lingers for a long period of time it can be a sign of chronic pain. Chronic pain is usually classified as pain that lasts for over 6 months along with symptoms such as being overly sensitive to pain and pain from something that normally wouldn't cause discomfort. Some of the most common areas where chronic pain manifests in patients are the lower back, the neck, and the head area; although people can experience chronic pain in many different places such as joints, muscles, and bones. It is often described as aching or shooting pain in the affected area. For patients living with chronic pain, it can be holding them back from living a high-quality life.

How are chronic pain and depression connected?

Although chronic pain can be caused by a lot of different factors, it is often associated with depression. The symptoms of depression can include fatigue, restlessness, poor concentration, guilt, loss or gain of weight, hopelessness, or irritability. Pain and depression can create a vicious cycle of one causing the other that may seem endless. Unfortunately, the presence of one condition can worsen the other, leaving patients with an overlap of the two that makes it hard to distinguish between which condition originally caused the other. There are temporary solutions that can fix one problem such as pain medication or antidepressants, but they come with risks and side effects that can worsen one’s quality of life. Chiropractic care is a solution that can treat both chronic pain and depression, without prescriptions or invasive procedures.

How can chiropractic care help with chronic pain?

Chiropractic care can help alleviate chronic pain by relieving pressure in the treated area. The human body functions best when full mobility is restored through alignment and balance of the spine. The spine is responsible for the function of all other parts in the body, so by treating the root of the problem through chiropractic care the snowballing symptoms are typically resolved. This helps to bring all parts of the body back to normal function therefore resolving pain. The body cannot function normally when the spine is out of balance making it difficult for a patient to manage pain levels and heal the source of chronic pain. Chiropractic care lifts any blockage that resides in the spine that is responsible for stopping the body’s natural healing processes. Any lingering or chronic pain is reduced or completely eliminated when treated through chiropractic care because the body can return to normal function, giving it the opportunity to treat pain.

How can chiropractic care help with depression?

When the spine is out of alignment it can cause more than just physical pain. It can also cause psychological discomfort such as anxiety or depression. Your body cannot produce necessary chemicals and hormones that regulate your mental health. A lack of these hormones and chemicals results in stress, anxiety and depression. Additionally, the nerve flow in the body is blocked, therefore affecting the way the brain processes emotions and the overall function of the nervous system. Chiropractic care is a better treatment for depression compared to prescription drugs and antidepressants because it works to heal the root of the problem. Medicine, on the other hand, tricks the body into thinking there are no symptoms resulting from the underlying problem and therefore does not work to naturally heal the problem on its own.

How can chiropractic care treat the whole person?

Possibly the biggest benefit of chiropractic care is that it treats the whole body. When the spine is aligned and balanced, both the body and mind can function at their highest potential. This is why it is especially effective in treating problems such as depression and chronic pain that are connected. When the source of these conditions is unclear, chiropractic care can be beneficial because it heals all parts of the body instead of just one. By focusing on the spine, the center of the body, our chiropractors can treat a variety of conditions and pain whether it be physical or psychological by healing itself from the inside out. It also works in a preventative way because when the body returns to a state of normal functioning it reduces the chance of future health conditions as well.

If you are struggling with chronic pain and/or depression, chiropractic care can offer you a safe solution to treat the root of the problem and improve your quality of life. Pain should not be a part of one’s everyday life, and chiropractic care can give your body the opportunity to work through the pain from the inside out and naturally heal itself.
